Questions About Our Practice

Do I Need a Consultation? What Happens at the Consultation?

Many people have the occasional thought to see a plastic surgeon. By committing to visit with Dr. Nimtz, you take an essential first step in enhancing, restoring, or refining your appearance. By meeting with Dr. Nimtz, you will come to appreciate what you can expect from treatment and can have your questions answered. At the same time, he can come to appreciate what your expectations are. Through this exchange, Dr. Nimtz will recommend a treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs and desires. Family members and friends are welcome, and often accompany people on their visits. They may offer additional advice to patients.

During the visit, you should expect to explain to Dr. Nimtz what you envision and ask any questions you may have. He will provide a personalized evaluation. This will include taking your medical history and performing an examination. Dr. Nimtz and one of our patient advocates will be present for your examination. After your examination, clinical photographs will be taken. These will be used in planning your treatment. Before concluding, you may be given additional information to facilitate your decision-making. If desired, you can schedule surgery the day of the consultation.

Do I Have to Schedule Surgery During the Consultation?

This is not required. Some people choose to reserve a time during their consultation, while others desire further time to make their decisions. Surgeon’s fees quoted during the consultation are valid for six months (special offers may only last a few months). Surgery center and anesthesia fees are quoted at their current rates and are subject to change according to surgery center policies.

Is There a Consultation Fee?

We require that a credit card number be provided at the time that you schedule your consultation for a small $75 deposit that will be credited towards your procedure. Alternatively, if you choose not to move forward with your procedure, you will forgo your deposit.

What If I Have Questions Afterwards?

Sometimes you forget that one extra question. Other times you may want to come back in and try on implants again. Dr. Nimtz’ team is available to help! You can always contact our office for additional assistance. On occasion, scheduling a second consultation can be arranged.

Do I Need to Have Photographs Taken?

Pre- and post-operative photographs provide an essential component of planning and assessing your treatments. We take “before” photos during the consult and mock them up to provide patients projected “after” images. Our photograph consents allow you to specify whether those photographs remain wholly private, or whether you will allow Dr. Nimtz to use them for educational, research, and/or marketing purposes. Your privacy is important to us.

What Is the Difference Between Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery?

In the world of co-insurance, co-payments, and deductibles, insurance companies have become increasingly stringent with what procedures qualify for coverage. These companies will draw a distinction between cosmetic procedures (not covered by insurance) and reconstructive procedures (those covered). Common examples of procedures not covered include breast augmentation, tummy tuck, and JUVÉDERM® injections. Those covered can include breast reconstruction (after mastectomy), skin cancer excisions, and burn treatments.

Can I Get Multiple Procedures at One Time?

While it depends on several factors, Dr. Nimtz frequently performs multiple procedures during the same surgery. His top priorities are your safety and surgical outcome. Factors involved include total time spent in the operating room, how your body may react to the combined procedures, and your medical conditions.

Frequently combined procedures include:

  • Breast augmentation and tummy tuck
  • Breast augmentation and breast lift
  • Facelift and eyelid lift
  • Breast augmentation and liposuction

Combining procedures allows for one anesthesia period and one recovery period, which can cut down on costs. Dr. Nimtz will often discount the procedures when done in combination.

What Will My Recovery Be Like?

Recovery periods vary by procedure and person. Living situations (desk jobs vs. factory work vs. childcare) may require different recommendations. Not everybody responds to procedures in the same way. In general, a person may want to take a week off of work for a breast augmentation, but two weeks off for a tummy tuck. Resuming exercise or activities is usually done gradually. After breast augmentation, a period of restricting exercise to walking is followed by light jogging or exercise, eventually allowing for unrestricted movement (Crossfit, etc.).

Where Will My Surgery Be Performed?

Dr. Nimtz is credentialed at several Lexington hospitals including:

  • Kentucky One’s St. Joseph Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital East
  • Baptist Health Corbin
  • Baptist Health Lexington
  • Baptist-Physicians’ Surgery Center
  • Lexington Surgery Center
  • Kentucky Surgery Center

Minor procedures, such as skin cancer reconstruction, can be performed in one of our in-office surgery rooms.

What Financing Options are Available? Will Insurance Cover the Costs?

Financing and insurance coverage vary between the two types of procedures we offer.

Cosmetic

Cosmetic procedures are performed for aesthetic reasons only, such as rhinoplasty, tummy tuck, and liposuction, and are not covered by insurance. For cosmetic procedures, we are happy to accept CareCredit®, which is a credit card that enables patients to pay for cosmetic procedures from BOTOX® Cosmetic to breast augmentation. You can learn more from their website at www.carecredit.com. In our office, we accept CareCredit through 3 different payment plans:

  • 6 months deferred interest (If the patient pays the balance within the 6 months of deferred interest, they will not be charged interest.)
  • 24 months at 14.99% APR
  • 36 months at 14.99% APR

Additionally, our office accepts Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express along with personal checks and cash.

Can You Give Me a Price for a Procedure Over the Phone?

Many factors go into cosmetic surgery; therefore, it is difficult to compare prices between surgeons. A patient, for example, might shop for a breast augmentation but once she meets with the surgeon, find out she really needs a breast lift in addition to augmentation. Meeting with the surgeon is the best way to determine:

  1. The procedure that is best for you
  2. What factors might contribute to the cost

We are happy to give you a range of what our procedures may cost, but we encourage you to meet with the surgeon rather than select the procedure and surgeon by price alone.
