Chemical Peel in Lexington, KY
If you live in Lexington, Georgetown, or the surrounding areas of Kentucky, and you’d like to enhance your facial skin’s health and youthful appearance, consider a chemical peel at Dowden Plastic Surgery.
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel evens out skin texture and color without surgery. Also known as derma-peeling or chemexfoliation, it’s safe and effective for treating sun damage, acne scarring, age spots, and pre-cancerous skin growths. It works by peeling off the top, damaged layers of skin to promote the growth of younger, smoother skin.
Benefits of a Chemical Peel
One of the least invasive ways to improve the look of your skin, chemical peels offer the following benefits:
- Diminished fine lines and wrinkles.
- Your smooth, glowing complexion will result in an increase in self-confidence.
- Minimal cost.
- Minimal downtime.
- Reduced appearance of sun damage and melasma.
- Improvement in skin texture and vibrancy.
- Enhancement in collagen growth.
- Reduction in the effects of acne on the skin and even minimizes blemishes themselves.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?
To be considered a good candidate for a chemical peel in Georgetown, KY, you must demonstrate that you are physically and psychologically healthy and that your expectations for the procedure are realistic.
Types of Chemical Peels
At Dowden Plastic Surgery, we offer two types of chemical peels if your skin care regimen doesn’t produce your desired results.
The Obagi® Blue Peel
The Obagi® Blue Peel is an intermediate trichloroacetic acid (TCA) chemical peel that develops smoother and more radiant skin color and texture. You’ll experience mild to moderate peeling, after which there will be a visible difference in your complexion. You can return to your daily routine about 10 days after receiving this treatment, which is how long it takes for the new skin to establish itself fully. However, over the next several weeks, your skin will continue to improve, becoming clearer, healthier, firmer, and more youthful-looking.
The Croton Oil Peel
The stronger Croton Oil Peel, formerly known as a phenol chemical peel, addresses deeper wrinkles that resist facelifts, fillers, and laser treatments. The peel significantly tightens the skin, and typical targets include deep lines or wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, skin discoloration, and acne scarring. It can also treat skin that is blotchy or sun-damaged as well as pre-cancerous skin growths. It is only recommended for light- and medium-skinned persons due to the possible side effect of lightening the treated area. You’ll undergo moderate peeling and need nearly two weeks of rest before returning to a normal schedule, but redness could last for weeks and require makeup coverage. The dramatic results more than makeup for this inconvenience, however.
